As I was commited.. a sharing! :)

These simple words caught my attention few days ago as I was going through my old highschool friends’ friendster page.. She wrote these three words: Addicted to Bible. Most of the times addiction relates to a negative things such as drugs, alcohol, sex, etc. I believe that it doesn’t always meant to be used in a negative way. It’s just people perspective who thinks that too much is too much. However, I believe that too much of God’s Words, is never too much!

Why? Because His Words is LIFE (The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. – John 6:63)

I thought to myself, am I an addict?

Looking up dictionaries, addicted has a meaning of:

1. Devoted or given up to a practice or habit or to something psychologically or physically habit-forming
2. To cause to become physiologically or psychologically dependent on a habit-forming substance
3. To occupy (oneself) with or involve (oneself) in something habitually or compulsively

Taking out the main points of these definition, we can define that addiction is a Habit (physiologically and psychologically).

1. What is a Physiological Habit?
Physiologic relates to Characteristic. It’s our lifestyle, what we do without even considering it (like my bad habit I posted in my friendster blog back then, I need to work on those!).
I remembered a famous saying (and I forgot by whom) that our characteristic are built on What Book We Read and What Community We Live In. Then I started to look at my life and see where am I built on. It will never be strong enough without the Word of God.
Our divine aim is to have a Christ-Like character, and to get there, is to read and meditate of His words night and day. Blessed are those who do it! (Psalm 1:1-3)

2. What is a Psychological Habit
Pyschologic relates to emotion and mind. It’s what we are thinking, how we are thinking, and how we are feeling. What are we thinking when we’re doing something? How are we thinking when we react to something? And How do we feel when we experience something?
If everytime we are facing troubles, issues, or anything in our life, and we always think and feel positively and even remember what God’s promises are, then psycologically we are habitually living in God’s Words.
I’d love to relate this with faith, because faith is something we believe in our mind and in our heart (Hebrew 11:1). And of course as Romans 10:17 says, our faith are built from the hearing of the Words of Christ.

Thus, to be addicted to bible, is first to have a habit of reading and building our character on what Jesus said. Then not just to read, but to do it, and be a habit in our mind and our heart. I believe once we are addicted, nothing in this life will be too hard to handle. We will be a blessing easily, we will be able to serve God easily, as we are already living in it on a secondly basis.

Possible? Of course!

Let’s get addicted!

Prayer:
Lord, help me today, to read the bible.
Help me today, to listen to Your words.
Help me today, to live by Your words, to think, to feel, and to act by Your words.
Help me Lord, to build my habit, to be addicted to Your words. That through my life and in everything I do, people are blessed by who I am.
Forgive me Lord for my sins, if I ever live outside Your words. If I ever doubted You. If I ever dissapoint You.
I want to renew my commitment, to build my life, upon You, every second of my life.
I know I can. By Your grace & strength, I believe. AMEN.
